New details revealed about the shooting death of a 16-year-old in Sheffield

SHEFFIELD, Alabama (WAFF) – Newly obtained court documents reveal more information about the events the night 16-year-old Demylah Nixon Johnson was shot and killed.

Shortly before 1 a.m. on July 24, Sheffield Police officers responded to a shooting call in the area of ​​S. Nashville Ave.

When they arrived, they found a woman named Nixon Jackson lying face down in the front yard with a gunshot wound to her back.

Nixon Johnson was treated by arriving officers and medical personnel before being taken to Hellen Keller Hospital. She later succumbed to her injuries.

At the scene, officers discovered nine 10mm cartridges on the roadway at the corner of Moses and S. Nashville Ave. Six of the nine cartridges were found to be bent. Four 9mm cartridges were found in the front yard of the house at 1006 S Nashville Ave. Officers then spoke with witnesses.

A witness stated that “some guys from Decatur were behind the shooting” and also said that “Amarion” was behind the shooting.

Another witness contacted officers and stated that she was at the party when the shooting occurred. She said that besides herself and Lamarion Niser Bethany, there were three other people in the same vehicle.

She said she and the other girls who were in the car were dropped off at the party and the other boys in the car, including Bethany, did not get out.

Bentany, the driver, then came back to pick her up from the party when it was time to leave, the witness stated.

After Bethany picked up the girls, he turned right onto Moses Street. He then put the car in park, got out, walked a block back to the party and started shooting, the witness said.

The documents state that Bethany got back in the car. The witness said she mentioned calling the police and Bethany threatened to shoot her and “throw her body on the side of the road.”

A witness said she saw Bethany “with a black gun on July 4th.”

Other witnesses in the car described the situation with the same details. Two of them stated that when Bethany got back in the car, everyone in the car asked what happened. Bethany allegedly ignored them and played loud music the entire drive back to Decatur.

A witness stated that on the way back to Decatur, Bethany and another person in the car, identified as “KR,” got out of the car after it stopped.

The witness said Bethany and KR got out and went to the back of the car near the trunk. The witness “believed the two of them were doing something with the gun.”

Based on witness statements, detectives and investigators believe that Bethany is responsible for the shooting death of Nixon Jackson.
