New Cincinnati Reds free agent signing is mentioned on BAD list

CINCINNATI — The Reds signed Jeimer Candelario to a three-year, $45 million contract this offseason in hopes he could bring stability to the young lineup.

Instead, Candelario was another inconsistent player on David Bell’s team. He certainly had some good moments, but he also had his fair share of struggles.

The veteran has a slash average of .226./.280/.430 with 19 home runs, 55 RBI and 108 strikeouts. He has solid power numbers – the 19 home runs are already the second-highest number of his career.

Nevertheless, Candelario was mentioned by MLB executives in Mark Feinsand’s recent article discussing the biggest free agent deals of last winter.

Candelario received votes for the “most problematic signings.” He was joined by Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Jung Hoo Lee, Eduardo Rodriguez, Lucas Giolito, Marcus Stroman and Mitch Garver.
