Netflix announces documentary series about basketball at the Olympic Games in Paris

Netflix on Friday released a teaser for a docuseries about men’s basketball at the Paris Olympics, featuring the jerseys of five of the tournament’s biggest stars.

The documentary series, titled “Olympic Men’s Basketball,” is scheduled to premiere in 2025, according to the streaming service.

The teaser features jerseys from LeBron James of Team USA, Nikola Jokic of Serbia, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Canada, Franz Wagner of Germany and Victor Wembanyama of France.

Olympic Men’s Basketball will provide all viewers with access to the sport’s promising young players and medal contenders from around the world as they battle to qualify for Paris 2024 before setting their sights on the Olympic podium. Through a generation of legends, the six-part series will also examine what has made the game such a global, competitive phenomenon. (International Olympic Committee Announcement)

With this and two other documentary series, the IOC wants to make the athletes’ stories and the heat of competition accessible to a wider audience.

The other documentaries are about gymnastics and athletics, with the focus on American stars who have collected medals.

“Simone Biles: Rising” premiered in July with two episodes about the greatest gymnast of all time. Part 2 of the documentary series is expected to be released on October 25th.

“Sprint” stars Americans Noah Lyle and Sha’Carri Richardson, as well as Jamaican star Shericka Jackson. Season 2, which focuses on the Paris Games, is scheduled to be released on November 13.
