Machine Gun Kelly knows what his father went through. Some family traumas have repercussions across generations.
In recent years, Machine Gun Kelly’s relationship with Megan Fox has really put her fans to the test.
However, the somewhat infamous singer and songwriter has more to offer than just saying, “I am grass” and being the awkward half of a celebrity couple.
When his father was only 9 years old, he was convicted of murder be Father.
Machine Gun Kelly’s father had to watch his own father die
When he was only nine years old, Machine Gun Kelly’s father witnessed the death of his father – MGK’s grandfather – from an accidental gunshot wound and then, while still a small child himself, was put on trial for “murder.”
In the August 5 episode of Bunnie Xo’s Stupid blonde Podcast, Machine Gun Kelly talked about the horror his father witnessed – and the further trauma that followed.
“I was always told that her father dropped the gun and basically got his head blown off,” MGK recalled on the podcast.
“It all happened in the same room as my father when I was nine years old,” Machine Gun Kelly emphasized, once again showing his sensitive side.
“So he and my grandmother were charged with murder,” he added. “They were both acquitted.”
One must assume that the police and prosecutors wanted to pressure the mother into making a false confession. In this case, by putting her traumatized 9-year-old on trial. This is an extreme example of a frighteningly common problem in our broken justice system.
Growing up, Machine Gun Kelly did not always understand his father’s trauma
As a child, MGK – real name Colson Baker – had no understanding when his father “freaked out” because of “loud noise.”
He recalled: “I thought to myself, ‘You should be a man, dude. Why are you acting like this?’ and that just made me hate him.”
But Machine Gun Kelly eventually understood his father. “And then you sit there and think about a boy who was on trial for the murder of his father at the age of nine,” he said in the podcast. “I had a very interesting conversation with him on his deathbed about that moment.”
After Machine Gun Kelly’s mother left the family, his father raised him. In 2020, his father passed away. It took a long time for MGK to understand how much his father’s trauma had affected him throughout his life.
“In my situation with my dad, he was tormented by the craziest crap I think a kid can go through,” he noted. “He had to figure it out, but almost every possible bad circumstance was working against him as well.”
Machine Gun Kelly said: “It’s almost like the expectations are too high. We think they know everything because we grew up with them. But we’re all just lost and trying to figure it out.”
He talked to his own daughter about it
Machine Gun Kelly had an important conversation with his 15-year-old daughter Casie about what his father went through.
It’s rare for a 9-year-old to be brought to trial. (It’s even rarer for a 9-year-old white boy to be brought to trial because our legal system is not as impartial as one would like.)
This is part of their family history and heritage. It is appalling to think that a traumatic loss is exacerbated rather than repaired by the legal system.
