MVNU hires Mowry as Director of Residence Life & Student Accountability

MOUNT VERNON – Mount Vernon Nazarene University has named Sarah Mowry as the new director of residence life and student affairs.

Mowry served the university for two years as Assistant Director of Residence Life and for four years as Resident Director.

Mowry will oversee residence hall life, housing, and student conduct and policies. She will supervise the professional staff of residence hall directors and assistant residence hall directors, as well as the residence hall life student staff.

Mowry will also work with other campus departments, such as athletics, facilities, campus security, etc., to ensure a smooth dorm life for students and staff.

“We are excited to have Sarah in this role. Her years of experience in residence life and her years as a youth pastor have prepared her well to lead this program and this team,” said Dr. Matt Spraker, vice president for student life.

“Sarah knows dorm life, ministry, leadership and MVNU – and I know she will excel in this role.”

Mowry holds a bachelor’s degree in music ministry from Olivet Nazarene University and an MBA in organizational management from MVNU.

“I cannot express the joy and privilege I have felt over the past four years as an RD with Residence Life,” Mowry said. “It has provided a way for me to fulfill my calling as a minister, particularly in serving college-age students, while working with a group that shares the same goal — serving students during this unique chapter of their lives.”

“Having served in both the freshman and senior areas as Resident Director, I believe I have a thorough understanding of the diverse needs of our students and hope to continue learning and serving in this role.”

Mowry looks to the future of Residence Life and the direction she wants to take as the new director.

“My plan is to continue to build on the foundation of a restorative, growth-oriented and grace-filled process established by my predecessors. I will always put our students first, advocate for them and encourage their growth, even in difficult moments,” Mowry said.

“I love MVNU and I love the unique role Residence Life plays. When you love your job, you can’t help but do it to the best of your ability. I commit to continuing to pray for clarity and guidance as I take on this director role.

“I invite everyone and welcome prayers for our staff and students as we prepare for this year!”
