Movie releases on Indian Independence Day 2024

Indian Independence Day, celebrated on August 15, is not only a significant day for the nation but also a key date in the Indian film industry. Every year, filmmakers try to release their films to capitalize on the patriotic craze and the long holiday weekend. In 2024, the tradition will continue with an exciting line-up of films hitting the big screen, offering action, drama and entertainment. Khel Khel My

Khel Khel Mein is a much-awaited comedy-drama series, a remake of Paolo Genovese’s 2016 Italian film Perfect Strangers. Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the film features an ensemble cast including Akshay Kumar, Ammy Virk, Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Aditya Seal and Pragya Jaiswal in the lead roles. Chitrangada Singh will also make her special appearance in the film.

The film was originally scheduled for release on September 6, but has now been pushed to August 15, which coincides with India’s Independence Day. The story revolves around seven friends who meet after a long time and decide to exchange all their SMS, emails and messages for a day. As secrets come to light, their relationship is put to the test, leading to both humorous and dramatic twists.

The film has already attracted a lot of attention before its theatrical debut. Reports confirmed that Netflix had acquired the digital streaming rights. The film is expected to be available on the platform about two months after its theatrical release.

Vedaa

Vedaa, directed by Nikkhil Advani and starring John Abraham, is set to clash with other notable films premiering on Independence Day. The film revolves around the gripping story of a former army officer who takes it upon himself to train an ordinary girl to fight caste discrimination and untouchability. The trailer hints at a powerful climax full of intense violence and bloodshed and promises a thrilling cinematic experience.

Ahead of the release, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has given Vedaa a U/A certification. In addition, the CBFC has cut more than nine minutes of footage to comply with the board’s guidelines. The film features an ensemble cast that includes John Abraham, Sharvari, Tamannaah Bhatia and Abhishek Banerjee, among others.

Street 2

Stree 2 has created a huge buzz among the audience with its recently released trailer and songs. Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 brings back the popular cast including Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee and Pankaj Tripathi. In a twist, Varun Dhawan, who starred in Bhediya, another hit from Maddock Entertainment, will be making a special appearance.

Stree 2 centers on a new malevolent spirit, Sar Kata Bhoot, who appears in the town of Chanderi and starts kidnapping women. This supernatural threat leads to a series of comical yet terrifying complications, mixing horror and humor in a way that fans of the first film will no doubt appreciate.

Thangalan

Thangalaan, directed by Pa. Ranjith, is a historical drama set in the backdrop of British India, focusing particularly on the Kolar Gold Field (KGF). The film explores the dark history of how the British colonial rulers mined over 900 tonnes of gold from the KGF and transported it to England.

Vikram plays the lead role, supported by notable actors like Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu and Daniel Caltagirone. Although Thangalaan is yet to hit the theatres, Netflix has already secured the streaming rights post-release. The film will be available on the platform in multiple languages ​​including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

In addition to these new releases on Indian Independence Day, several other notable films are hitting the theatres and promising a blockbuster day for Indian cinema.
