Move Up Day brings energy and enthusiasm for the fall semester – USC Upstate

USC Upstate rolled out the red carpet on Friday with our annual Move Up Day as a record number of students, 725 first-year students and 788 transfer students, now call Upstate home. Campus was bustling with activity as new students and their families moved into newly renovated residence halls designed to enhance the living experience.

“Our Housing and Residence Life team has worked tirelessly to ensure every detail is perfect for our students,” said Bennie Harris, Ph.D., Chancellor of USC Upstate. “Our residence advisors, volunteers, families and vendors have done an extraordinary job to ensure a smooth experience for everyone today. Seeing our campus come alive with the energy of new and returning students is contagious.”

USC Upstate’s residence advisors, faculty and staff provided support to newcomers, helping them settle into their new home and ensuring a smooth transition.

As the new school year begins, USC Upstate continues to build on its reputation for providing an exceptional college experience with improvements to the residence halls, such as updated washrooms and a new room access system that requires students to use their Carolina Card for entry.

“I am proud of the improvements we have made to our facilities, which reflect our commitment to a first-class residential experience,” said Tierney Bates, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. “The Magnolia and Palmetto Houses not only help our Spartans thrive as individuals, but also provide students with opportunities to socialize and make new friends.”

USC Upstate also offers students numerous safety measures, including brightly lit parking lots, security cameras, emergency telephones, and 24-hour campus police patrols.

New student Calvin Johnson expressed his excitement about joining the Upstate community, noting, “It’s close to my parents’ house, so I can visit family while also improving my digital marketing and graphic design skills. The beautiful campus and technological resources are what initially drew me to apply. I’m looking forward to making new memories and working with my professors this semester.”

The day ended with the “Big Green Welcome Kickoff” with laser tag, mini golf, headphone disco and other festivities.
