Missing 9-year-old boy did not attend school in Grapevine, police say

Grapevine police have issued an Athena Alert for a 9-year-old boy who did not show up for school Wednesday morning, officials said.

Family members said Zavien Keyes missed his bus and ended up walking to Glenhope Elementary School, Grapevine police said in a social media post. He never arrived.

Zavien is a black boy, approximately 4′ 5″ tall and weighing approximately 90 pounds. When he disappeared, he was wearing a black shirt with a gold Spider-Man motif and green pants. He may also have been carrying a blue backpack.

Police are currently searching the area around Zavien’s home in the area of Mustang Drive and Tanglewood, as well as his route to school and nearby parks, the post said.

Anyone with information on Zavien’s whereabouts is asked to contact Grapevine police at 817-410-8127. Businesses and homeowners in the area are asked to check their doorbells or security cameras for possible sightings of the 9-year-old.

An Athena Alert is designed to bridge the time between a child’s disappearance and the issuance of a statewide Amber Alert. The alert is named in honor of 7-year-old Athena Strand, who was abducted from her Wise County home in 2022 and brutally murdered.
