Former Harry Potter Star Jessie Cave has admitted that she does not agree with Miriam Margolyes‘ current comments on the popular film series.

Jessie played Lavender Brown in the last three Harry Potter films, while Miriam appeared in the series as Hogwarts professor Pomona Sprout.

Last month, the Bafta award winner appeared on 1News in New Zealand, where she caused a stir by saying: “I worry about (adult) Harry Potter fans. They should have gotten over that by now.”

“You know, it was 25 years ago and it’s for children. I I think it’s for kids. But they get stuck in it.”

Miriam added that as part of her work on the website Cameo, she receives requests for video messages from fans celebrating “Harry Potter-themed weddings.” She commented: “Oh my goodness, what’s their first fun night going to be? I can’t even think about it.”

When asked about Miriam’s comments at Dream It Con over the weekend, Jessie admitted: “It’s such a shame that this happened.”

She continued: “You know how she is – she’s just a little bit weird. And I hope she didn’t mean for it to be perceived that way.”

Jessie then added, “I really don’t like that she said that.”

In 2020 Miriam explained in a Cameo video message: “I’m not a (Harry Potter fan). I’m not against it, I just don’t care.”

“I’ve never seen a movie. I’ve never seen the books, I’ve never read them. I’ll just pocket the money when it comes and I’m very grateful for it.”

Recently, she claimed in her cover interview with British Vogue: “For me, Harry Potter wasn’t important. I was very happy to get the role and I enjoyed being in it and meeting all the people, but it’s not Charles Dickens.”

Since her 1News interview, Miriam has reiterated her Harry Potter claims and Australia’s News Breakfast: “I just think it’s for kids. And if you dropped your balls, then it’s time to forget about it. You know, do other things.”
