Minnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles in preseason: First half recap and second half discussion

Minnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles in preseason: First half recap and second half discussion

We are at halftime at Lincoln Financial Field and your Minnesota Vikings are leading the Philadelphia Eagles 20-3 thanks to a very solid performance from Jaren Hall.

The Vikings had the ball first on this play and it looked like the Vikings’ offense would be ended by a Hall interception, but the Eagles got a penalty for illegal contact on this play, giving the Purples new downs. Hall recovered and brought the Vikings’ offense into the red zone, and on a 3rd-and-4 from Philadelphia’s 7, Hall found Trishton Jackson for a touchdown! Will Reichard kicked the extra point and the Vikings led 7-0 eight minutes into the game.

The Eagles took the lead and ran six consecutive runs on their first drive, all of which were run by Tyrion Davis-Price. He gained 33 yards on those runs, but on the last one, Levi Drake Rodriguez knocked the ball out of his hands, which Jalen Redmond recovered and led to a turnover for Minnesota.

The Vikings again put together a long, impressive drive behind Hall, but he was sacked on the third attempt. The Vikings then called up freshman Will Reichard, who converted one from 31 yards to extend Minnesota’s lead to 10-0.

Philadelphia had a much better second possession, with Kenny Pickett leading the way…see what I did there…and the Eagles pushed into the red zone. But they had to settle for a field goal when Jake Elliott scored from 41 yards out to make the score 10-3.

Minnesota then embarked on another long drive where Hall continued to play solidly, finishing it off with another touchdown pass that found Justin Hall for a 4-yard touchdown, extending Minnesota’s lead to 17-3.

The Eagles brought the ball to the midfield at the two-minute warning and faced a 4th and 1. They tried it and freshman Dwight McGlothern cut in between and pulled the Eagles running back to the ground, resulting in a loss of yardage and a turnover.

Minnesota converted the loss into more points when Reichard scored from 30 meters and the halftime score was 20-3.

Hall looked pretty impressive in the first half, and I guess his afternoon is over. Matt Corral will likely take over to finish the series in this game. Hall finished the first half 15 of 21 passing for 162 yards and two touchdown passes.

The Vikings lead the Eagles 20-3 at halftime of their third preseason game. Come watch the second half, folks!
