In January, Bolton revealed he was recovering from surgery to remove a brain tumor. He said his doctors discovered the tumor just before the holidays and needed immediate surgery.

“Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success,” he wrote on Facebook at the time. “I am now recovering at home and am surrounded by the tremendous love and support of my family.”

He explained that he will “dedicate my time and energy to recovery” in the coming months, noting that he is taking a break from touring. “Postponing a show is always the hardest thing, but I am undoubtedly working hard to speed up my recovery and get back to performing soon.”

Before the first announcement, the two-time Grammy winner released his 24th studio album, Spark of Lightin July 2023. Following the release, Bolton told PEOPLE that the album and single “Beautiful World” are about bringing positivity in dark times.

He explained that the optimism on Spark of Light was inspired by the pandemic and the need to find something positive even in the darkest times.

“We basically watched our friends and family and saw that they all really needed some light, that it was so dark and oppressive and that we were all basically dealing with a layer of fear every day,” he said.

“And so we started to feel a responsibility to convey hope and promise and all these feelings that seem so hard to pin down, and it started to become a feel-good record.”
