MGK intentionally misses the first pitch at the Cleveland Guardians game

The first pitch at a baseball game can be the best or worst day of a celebrity’s life. Some, like Mariah Carey and Gary “Baba Booey” Dell’Abate of the Howard Stern Show, screw it up so badly that they are instantly and forever etched in Mendoza Lines for Diamond Disaster.

And then there’s Machine Gun Kelly. The northern Ohio native capped off his hometown’s charity weekend on Tuesday (August 13) when he threw out the first pitch at the Cleveland Guardians’ home game against the Chicago Cubs at Progressive Field. Unlike 50 Cent’s disastrous attempt in 2014, where he nearly knocked over a cameraman, or Snoop Dogg’s smoker in San Diego in 2016, which had speed but missed, Colson Baker didn’t even try to put the ball in the catcher’s glove.

Standing on the mound in ripped baggy jeans, a red Guardians jersey with No. 22 first baseman Josh Naylor printed on it, and a black cap, MGK pretended to hit a ball straight down the middle and made what appeared to be a decent recovery before sprinting to his right and throwing a hard ball into the seats to the delight of the home crowd.

Major League Baseball posted the special moment with the caption, “MGK with a one of a kind first pitch (crying laughing emoji).” A video posted after the pitch showed the happy fan in an MGK t-shirt struggling to catch the ball and holding it up to her phone to take an excited snapshot of the special moment.

MGK was all over town this weekend participating in his MGK Day, which included the Skate + BMXXing event on Friday at Crooked River State Park, followed by a game/trivia night at his 27 Coffee Shop and a movie night at Lago Veranda with a screening of his Living in Pink Documentary. Saturday featured a charity softball game at League Park, the former home of the Cleveland Indians (the home team’s former name), and a performance by Nelly at FWD Day & Nightclub.

Sunday’s events included a takeover of the downtown streets with a massive bike rally en route to a performance at his MGK Day Block Party, where he was joined by Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, Jelly Roll and Tee Grizzley, followed by a service day at 27 Club Coffee on Monday and an anime night at Sora.
