Meghan Markle was all about accessories in Colombia, and her sun hat and comfortable block heels are on our end-of-summer wishlist.
A brilliant look can be taken to new levels thanks to your accessories, so it’s always important to have some versatile basics in your collection. Right now, we’re still making the most of our summer pieces before putting together our capsule wardrobe for fall, and Meghan Markle has given us some fabulous end-of-season inspiration. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been visiting Colombia, and the hot weather called for some sensational, yet breathable looks from Meghan. She certainly didn’t disappoint, and on August 17, she visited Cartagena with Prince Harry in a black two-piece with block heel sandals and a sun hat.
The Duchess of Sussex is a huge fan of monochrome outfits and this look was all black and white, aside from her beautiful shoes. The set had the look of a flowing maxi dress and was designed by Johanna Ortiz.

You can’t go wrong with a pair of tan sandals and these will go with anything from jeans and a cami top to a jumpsuit or dress. They have a strap across the toe as well as an ankle strap to keep them secure on your feet. The block heel is a great alternative to stilettos and the design is so simple and beautiful.
This gorgeous bag is available in many other colors too – both bright and neutral – but we love this ‘stone’ white shade. It’s a convenient size to fit all your essentials, and the tassel is a fun yet classic detail. The crossbody strap is great if you want to go hands-free, although it’s also removable and adjustable.
This affordable Panama hat is ideal if you’re looking for a two-tone hat for sunny days and late summer holidays. It’s also available in beige, black and brown and has an adjustable drawstring. It’s also foldable, making it great for packing in your suitcase for travel.
Both the tank top and maxi skirt were made of silk and were black with white stripes. Unlike the Breton-style tops that are so popular this time of year, the pattern on Meghan’s two-piece was not uniformly horizontal or vertical. This skirt and top combination was so elegant and also very wearable, as the Duchess could easily mix and match the individual pieces with her other favorite pieces from her wardrobe.
While the set was undeniably stunning, this outfit was made even more stunning by Meghan’s sun hat, block heel sandals and crossbody bag. These accessories wouldn’t look out of place with your wedding guests’ best dresses and are also perfect for a day visit to the Escuela Tambores de Cabildo drum school in Cartagena.
Anyone who loved Meghan’s bronze shirt and pants outfit from the first day of her visit to Colombia will remember this Aquazzura Shoes like the ones she wore back then.
The ‘cognac brown’ colour is a wonderful neutral shade that’s easy to pair with anything, and the suede adds an extra texture that contrasts with Meghan’s breezy two-piece. The ankle strap ensured the shoes stayed secure on her feet, and the block heel was a stroke of genius as they’re much more comfortable for everyday wear than stilettos, but a little more chic than your best white sneakers.
Continuing the stylish yet practical theme, Meghan carried a sun hat to protect herself from the harsh Colombian sun. This was white with a black band around the brim and matched the color palette of her outfit perfectly.
She had it with her when she arrived in Cartagena and even when she held it in her hand, it gave her outfit a particularly glamorous touch. Meghan also brought a white shoulder bag from Cesta Collective It was a practical decision that left her hands free and also looked very pretty.
Her accessories were all very classic and neutral and it’s worth following a similar scheme with your own summer accessories if you want to wear them to the max. The Duchess of Sussex wore her hair in a voluminous high ponytail, which is a great hairstyle for hot weather as it keeps the curls away from the face and shoulders.
Meghan’s ponytail completed her put-together outfit in style, and her choice of timeless, neutral accessories has given us plenty of inspiration as we enjoy the weather at the end of summer.
