Meghan Markle raved about her and her husband Prince Harry’‘s three-year-old daughter Lilibet reaches an important milestone.

“I think part of my role modeling as a mother is to encourage our daughter,” Markle, 43, said during a Sunday, Aug. 18, panel discussion titled “Afro-descended Women and Power: Voices for Equality.” “And at 3 years old, she’s found her voice.”

The Duchess of Sussex added that she was “proud” of Lilibet, whom she gave birth to with Harry, 39, in 2021. (Markle and Harry, who married in 2018, also have a son together, Archie, 5.)

“So we’re creating the conditions where there’s a ripple effect where young girls and young women know that if someone else encourages them to use their voice and be heard, they’re going to create a very different environment than the one that so many of us grew up in, where our voices were supposed to be quieter.”

Markle continued, “And by raising them now, we are changing the conditions and the environment so that everyone has the space to be the best version of themselves.”

Markle spoke next to Binaifer Nowrojee and Colombian Vice President Francia Marquez during the panel discussion that was part of her and Harry’s trip to Colombia.

Markle paid tribute to her children during a visit to the local drum school Escuela Tambores de Cabildo in Cartagena on Saturday, August 17. Markle wore a black striped maxi dress by Colombian designer Johanna Ortiz and paired the look with a gold “Imperial Disc Pendant” by Ariel Gordon Jewelry. The necklace was personalized with the names of her children, “Archie” and “Lilibet.”

Before Harry and Meghan’s trip to the South American country, the couple discussed “The Parents Network,” a new initiative in collaboration with their Archewell Foundation.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship has been on the world’s radar since they began dating in 2016. The couple announced their engagement in November 2017 and married the following May at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, England. In May 2019, the same month they welcomed their son, Archie.

The Parents Network – now available in the US, UK and Canada – aims to provide a safe and free support network for parents whose children have been harmed by social media.

“All you want to do as a parent is protect them,” Markle said in a joint interview with Harry earlier this month.
