MDC announces fish rescue for Cape Girardeau County Park Lake

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – The Missouri Department of Conservation has issued an emergency order to save fish in North County Park Lake.

Until September 30, anglers can take as many fish as possible to minimize waste under the emergency fish salvage order. According to MDC, the order is being issued because the lake has a large leak on the north side, causing the water depth to drop significantly.

During the period of validity of the ban, anglers are allowed to take all species of fish from the lake, with the exception of endangered species.

In addition to the fishing methods already authorized for the lake, the ordinance allows anglers to catch fish using the following methods during the hours when North County Park Lake in Cape Girardeau County is open to the public and for fishing:

  • Appearance
  • Get stuck
  • Grab
  • Landing net
  • Cast net
  • His
  • By hand

According to MDC, these temporary parameters allow the existing fish population to be utilized before fish die off due to the shallow lake and lack of oxygen.

These parameters apply only to North County Park Lake in Cape Girardeau County. All other permit, season and limit requirements remain in effect.

Anglers between the ages of 16 and 65 must still have a valid Missouri fishing license to fish in the lake.

Cape Girardeau County North Park Lake is open weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
