As People reported, Mariah Carey’s mother and sister died on the same day last weekend.
Carey provided the outlet with a statement confirming the tragic news.
“I am heartbroken to have lost my mother this past weekend. Unfortunately, in a tragic turn of events, my sister also lost her life that same day,” she told the outlet.
Mariah Carey says her mother’s jealousy “stayed with her for the rest of her life.”
“I feel blessed to have been able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away,” Carey added. “I am grateful for everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
Carey did not provide any further details about the deaths of her family members to the news outlet. A spokesperson for Carey did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Alison accused her mother Patricia of sexual abuse when she was 10 years old in a summons filed with the new York Supreme Court in February, which was obtained at the time by Fox News Digital.
Alison claimed that her mother permitted and encouraged an unknown number of men to engage in sexual acts, including touching and first-degree sexual assault, and that she witnessed people engaging in sexual acts with adults and children.
She also claimed that the whole thing took place at “satanic worship meetings in the middle of the night where ritual sacrifices were made.”

In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, Mariah spoke openly about her relationship with her mother.
“Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother was full of contradictions and competing realities. It was never just black and white — it was a whole rainbow of emotions,” she wrote, according to People.
“Our relationship is a thorny rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment. A complicated love binds my heart to my mother’s,” she continued.
