An unidentified gunman opened fire on Poinsett County sheriff’s deputies and Poinsett County District Judge Ron Hunter outside the judge’s home Friday evening, sparking a manhunt by multiple law enforcement agencies, according to a post on the Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

No one was injured in the shooting, the press release said.

According to the post, emergency dispatchers received a call from Hunter just after 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Hunter told them that “an unknown man was threatening him on his property,” the post said. Officers arrived and searched the area, but were unable to find the man who made the threats.

Then, an hour after the initial call to police, Hunter’s wife called 911 to report that someone had fired shots at the couple’s home. According to the release, another officer responded, and while speaking with Hunter, “an unknown individual began shooting at them.”

“The deputy notified dispatch that shots had been fired. As additional deputies arrived, the shooter opened fire on officers responding to the incident,” the press release states. “The Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office, Craighead County Sheriff’s Office, Harrisburg Police Department, Jonesboro Police Department and Arkansas State Police were mobilized to search for the suspect, using all available resources, including three drones.”

The press release, issued just after 3 a.m. on Saturday, said officers were “actively searching for” the person responsible. Anyone who observed or saw anyone acting suspiciously or walking around the area should contact police.
