Man charged with attempted murder in Madison County

MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – According to an arrest warrant, a man is charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to kill a woman in Madison County.

The arrest warrant stated that the Madison County Sheriff’s Office was called to Baptist Health Hospital in Richmond on July 22 for a domestic incident that occurred at a residence in Berea.

According to the arrest warrant, when officers contacted the victim, they stated that there had been a telephone argument between her and 35-year-old Richard Clark.

The victim told police that when she got home, she began “packing her things so she could leave,” and as she was doing so, “a car arrived with Clark in it and a verbal altercation ensued.”

The arrest warrant states that during the altercation, Clark began threatening the victim and “loaded a cartridge into a handgun.”

The victim told police she came to her vehicle and Clark allegedly said “he was going to put a bullet in the engine block.” The report goes on to say that Clark “dragged the victim from the vehicle and pinned her to the ground with his hands on her throat, causing her to pass out.”

During the physical altercation, the victim told police that Clark stopped when someone pulled into the driveway and she was then able to escape from him.

According to the arrest warrant, the victim was taken to the hospital and hospital staff found that she had “multiple bruises, a partial collapsed lung, contusions to her face and neck, and possible broken ribs.”

A warrant was issued for Clark’s arrest and he was arrested on August 6.

He is being held at the Madison County Detention Center and is charged with:

  • First degree strangulation
  • first degree willful endangerment
  • attempted murder – domestic violence

His arraignment is scheduled for August 9.
