Man charged after 11-year-old girl stabbed to death in London’s Leicester Square: police

A man has been charged after stabbing an 11-year-old girl in London’s Leicester Square on Monday morning, police said.

Ioan Pintary, 32, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a “bladed article”. The Metropolitan Police added that he had “no fixed address”.

He was scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.

Police responded to Leicester Square just before midday on Monday after the girl was found with stab wounds. It was initially thought the 34-year-old mother had been stabbed, but police said they had determined the blood came from her daughter’s injuries.

Authorities said the girl was taken to hospital with serious injuries that require further treatment but are “fortunately not life-threatening.”

Officials added that they do not believe there are any other suspects involved in the incident and that there is “no indication that the incident is terror-related.”

The incident came after a knife attack in northwest England in which three girls were killed during a Taylor Swift-themed dance event.

The victims include 9-year-old Alice Dasilva Aguiar, 7-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe and 6-year-old Bebe King. Ten other people were injured, including eight children and two adults.

Welsh-born Axel Rudakubana was charged with three counts of murder and ten counts of attempted murder.

Rumors about his identity apparently sparked violence across England last week, with clashes between crowds and police chanting anti-immigrant and anti-Islam slogans.
