Madison County schools implemented new football safety measures for the first time

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Madison County schools implemented a new security measure for the start of football season. The only lines were for ticket scanning.

People had no problem getting through the gun detectors. This system is new at football games, but students are already used to it.

The Opengate weapons detection system was installed in Madison County schools last year. It is the same system used at professional sporting events such as the Rocket City Trash Pandas games.

These are specifically designed to capture high-density objects such as weapons.

The bag regulations also had to be observed this year. Although there are no clear bag regulations, there are size restrictions.

The Madison County Schools athletic director said their fans are used to it.

“We’ve communicated it,” Matt Rodgers said. “So people know what to expect when they come here. It’s not a surprise to anyone. They’re used to it at other events, if you go to a Trash Pandas game, if you go to an event at the VBC, Huntsville City or Madison City, we all do it, so it’s one of those things that we’re pretty used to.”
