Madison County Commission holds monthly meeting, Commissioner Hale resigns

Madison County Commission holds monthly meeting, Commissioner Hale resigns

JACKSON, Tennessee – The Madison County Commission held its monthly meeting Monday morning.

It was a fairly short meeting with only a few agenda items voted on. One of the first items was an update to the flood plan for the Forked Deer River. We spoke with County Commissioner Mike Taylor about this update.

“It’s going to be an impressive site,” Taylor said. “The flood plan for the Forked Deer River, they’re doing a lot of things for this community that people don’t understand. They’re working on a trail to Bemis. And some other things that they’ve kept us updated on.”

They also wanted to vote on the approval of the sewage expansion. However, after some discussions, no decision was made.

“The JEA’s approval of the western sewer and water expansion has been postponed until next month to give us the opportunity to have further discussions with local residents,” Taylor said.

We were also able to speak with Madison County Mayor AJ Massey about recent car accidents and growing concerns about some dangerous intersections in the area.

“We’ve increased police presence, which has helped,” Mayor Massey said. “I got data this morning that shows people are being reasonable out there and obeying the speed limit. As long as that continues and people know that there’s probably more traffic here than ever before, we can prevent some vehicle damage and, of course, some deaths.”

Commissioner Joey Hale of District 3 offered his resignation to Commissioner Taylor after the meeting. In the letter, Hale states, “I have come to the difficult decision that I can no longer perform my role on the Commission to the extent that I believe this position deserves.”

Later, he continued to offer his help during the transition period.
