Rain largely held off on Saturday as people from and in support of the LGBTQ community flocked to downtown Mount Clemens for the Macomb County Pride Festival.

More than 100 vendors lined Main Street, and from noon to 6 p.m., visitors enjoyed entertainment and family-friendly activities to celebrate Pride.

“It was fantastic, it was incredible and even though it rained a little bit, it didn’t dampen the energy that everyone brought to the festival,” said Edward Perry, chairman of the Macomb County Pride Festival.

The Young Human Zone specifically for children included several craft opportunities, board games and parachute games with a large, rainbow-colored parachute.

“We worked with the Detroit Institute of Arts to bring crafts and activities to the Young Humans Zone and it worked out really well,” Perry said. “There was something for everyone.”

Drag queens Jadein Black, Rose Ritz, Sapphire, Vivian Aphrodisia and Golden O’Hara Polo were on hand to read stories and entertain.

“We had a smaller stage this year, but we really focused on the artists, the songwriters, the entertainers and I think this year’s festival was really great,” Perry said. “We were also able to set up on Main Street this year, which was new and I think it was a good change.”

Jean Johnson, development specialist for Arc of Macomb County, said the Macomb County Pride Festival was a day of fun for the more than 3,000 attendees.

“The rain showers did not dampen the spirit of the celebration and as the skies cleared, brilliant rainbows symbolised the unwavering pride and unity of the community,” said Johnson. “The entertainment and joyful atmosphere of the day shone brightly through the drizzle, making the event a true testament to resilience and togetherness.”
