A Macomb County man was disappointed when he missed the Fantasy 5 jackpot by one number, but to his great surprise he matched all five numbers the next night and won the Fantasy 5 jackpot of $795,905!

The 53-year-old player, who wished to remain anonymous, chose the correct Fantasy 5 numbers in the drawing on July 27 and thus won the top prize: 02-05-17-21-30. He bought his winning ticket online at MichiganLottery.com.

“I always buy Fantasy 5 tickets when the jackpot is over $250,000,” the player said. “I usually buy my tickets in the store, but on the night of the drawing I realized I had forgotten to buy any, so I logged in MichiganLottery.com and bought two.

“After the drawing, I saw an email from the lottery saying I had won $1 in the drawing. I thought that was all I had won until I received another email telling me to log into my account to claim my prize. When I logged in and saw that I had $795,905 outstanding, I first thought it was a scam. Now that I’m standing in the lottery office claiming my prize, I’m starting to realize this is real!

“The crazy thing is, the night before I matched four out of five numbers on my Fantasy 5 ticket and thought, ‘I was so close!’ I was excited to win $100 but disappointed that I was just one number away from a big jackpot prize. I never imagined then that I would actually win the jackpot the next night!”
