Machine Gun Kelly talks about how his 15-year-old daughter helped him make the decision to get sober.

The rapper, born Colson Baker, 34, appeared on Sunday, August 18, in the episode of Game worth millions of dollars Podcast and said that a conversation with his daughter Casie inspired him to get sober.

“It started with my daughter saying, ‘Daddy, do you know I can tell when you’re high?’ That broke my heart,” Kelly said on the podcast. “It was the ultimate disappointment.”

Kelly went on to say that his daughter was only 11 or 12 years old at the time.

“It took a while after that because drugs obviously have a way of pulling you in,” he continued. “That was the first step for me. As a father and as a man, I have to break that generational curse for my child to be the father that my father would have been, the father that I would have wanted him to be.”

Earlier this month, Kelly revealed during an appearance on Bunnie Xo’s podcast that he has been sober for a year. Stupid blonde. The musician spoke openly about his mental health problems and alcohol abuse and subsequently revealed that he was “completely sober”.

“I don’t drink anymore. I haven’t had a drink since last August,” he said. “That was the first time I went to rehab.”

MGK further revealed that he had previously abused alcohol, marijuana and pills.

In July, Kelly gave a rare glimpse into his life as a father when he celebrated his daughter’s 15th birthday with a sweet birthday tribute on Instagram.

In the first photo, the father-daughter duo can be seen posing together under a giant pink heart-shaped balloon arch, complete with pink balloon letters that spell out “HBD Casie.”

“The world keeps spinning, but when I look at you, it stops. Happy 15th birthday, princess 👑 🥰🥹,” the proud father wrote under his post.

The musician shared several more photos from Casie’s life, including a few adorable throwbacks of a much younger Casie fixing her father’s mohawk and playing her dad’s guitar.

In more recent footage, the teenager and her father watched a basketball game, relaxed on the beach and rode a motorcycle.
