Machine Gun Kelly’s father witnessed a tragic incident during his childhood that had a profound impact on his life and that of his son, rapper Machine Gun Kelly. At the age of 9, Machine Gun Kelly’s father was involved in a horrific incident in which his own father died from an accidental gunshot wound. The rapper’s father and grandmother were subsequently tried for the alleged murder but were ultimately acquitted.

Machine Gun Kelly, whose real name is Colson Baker, said that as a child he had difficulty understanding his father’s behavior, especially his sensitivity to loud noises. It was only later in life that he realized the deep trauma his father had endured as a child, when he was on trial for the murder of his own father.

Despite the challenges he faced, Machine Gun Kelly’s father raised him after his mother abandoned the family. Tragically, his father passed away in 2020, after which the rapper expressed his deep sadness on social media.

In a documentary released in 2022, Machine Gun Kelly spoke about his father’s traumatic past, revealing the heartbreaking details of how his father witnessed the death of his own father at a young age. This unresolved trauma from his father’s childhood had a lasting impact on Machine Gun Kelly as he grew up.

The rapper reflected on the complexity of their relationship, acknowledging the struggles his father faced and the multigenerational impact of trauma, stressing the importance of understanding the challenges his father overcame and the importance of compassion and empathy when dealing with intergenerational trauma.
