Lucky hit at the World Series? Texas Rangers reach new low

The alarm bells are ringing. The MLB world has noticed. And it’s not pretty.

The Texas Rangers are one of the worst teams in baseball. Yes, the defending World Series champions are in the proverbial basement.

The latest power rankings from MLB.com place the Rangers 22nd out of 30 teams, the lowest point for Texas this season.

When the Rangers won the World Series last year, it was no accident: They had a ton of young talent, invested wisely in improving their roster, and seemed to have a solid foundation. But now that they’re eight games under .500, it’s worth considering that if they don’t get above .500 by the end of the season, they’ll have only had one winning season since 2016: last year, when they won the World Series.

The championship seems more like an anomaly than the Rangers turning point and becoming one of the top franchises in baseball. Is the title a fluke for Texas?

There is still plenty of time to turn things around and win the division title, which is the Rangers’ best chance of making the playoffs. The wild card route seems out of reach.

The two teams the Rangers are trying to catch in the American League West are much higher up the list. The Houston Astros, who were already knocked off the team earlier this season, are in 11th place. The Seattle Mariners are in 12th place.

As for the rest of the AL West, the Oakland Athletics are ranked 26th and the Los Angeles Angels are ranked 27th.
