Lucas and other local officials announce location of World Cup Fan Fest

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) – The official FIFA-licensed Fan Fest for the 2026 World Cup in Kansas City will be held at the World War I Museum and Memorial, and the unveiling of this venue showcases what we will showcase when KC steps onto the world stage.

Mayor Quinton Lucas announced the news Wednesday afternoon at the Liberty Memorial.

“Many of our happiest times, our busiest times, have been right here,” Lucas said. “Sharing this Kansas City tradition with the world, of people coming here and having fun, is something that excites us.”

The Liberty Memorial is centrally located in Kansas City and the metropolitan area. It is also close to many hotels in downtown Kansas City.

Pam Kramer, CEO of KC 2026, along with Jason Sims, the new transportation director for World Championship preparations, are focusing on transportation. Transportation to the Liberty Memorial should also be easier than to other areas.

“Remember that by then the streetcar line will be extended to the Plaza, so it will be a central connection point,” Kramer said.

Other communities, such as many in Kansas, are expected to build on the Fanfest announcement, as fans will be on both sides of the state line.

Mike Kelly, chairman of the Johnson County Commission, was present for the announcement and also sits on the board for KC 2026.

“There will be World Cup events in many different locations across the region, including Johnson County,” Kelly said. “We will also be coming here to celebrate and prepare to welcome the world to Kansas City.”
