Lorraine Kelly has announced that she will be leaving X, formerly known as Twitter, for the foreseeable future.

In a post on the social media site, Kelly confirmed her exit and gave her reasons for doing so.

In what may be her last post, the Scottish broadcaster wrote: “Morning. I’m taking a break from Twitter – it’s all gotten a bit dark – find me on Instagram at @lorrainekellysmith, it’s mostly cute photos of my dog.”

A number of fans begged Kelly not to leave the social media site with a Publish: “Noooo, don’t go away, Lorraine! Please stay here on Twitter!”

Kelly did not elaborate on her reasons for leaving X, but the move came just a day after she detailed her experience with Russell Brand on a late-night talk show, where he called her a “bitch.”

Brand – who was accused of rape and sexual assault following a joint investigation by The Times and Channel 4 and denies the allegations against him – appeared on The Graham Norton Show with Kelly in 2007.

In the clip from the show, Brand touches Kelly’s leg and then says, “You’re wearing braces, Jesus! I’ve taken on too much, I’m overwhelmed.”

Brand then adds, “So, yes, I’ve been in other movies, but that doesn’t seem to matter so much now that I know Lorraine Kelly is a slut.”

Commenting on the clip during her ITV talk show, Kelly said: “Look, this is uncomfortable to watch now, it really is. And just FYI, I wasn’t wearing braces at all. Everyone was laughing, I was laughing.”

She continued: “I have to admit, it’s difficult. Looking back now, I probably would have said something. But it’s an entertainment show, it’s on late at night, that was his thing. Not only did he do that, he actively encouraged it, and that’s a scandal.”
