Lord of the Rings is ahead of Star Wars, Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean in survey | Movies | Entertainment

Over 10,000 Britons were surveyed to determine the most popular film music in the UK.

For the second year in a row, Howard Shore’s epic score for the Lord of the Rings trilogy tops the Classic FM Movie Music Hall of Fame.

On this bank holiday Monday, the radio played the 100 best pieces of film music before Jonathan Ross revealed that number 1 was the music to JRR Tolkien’s Middle Earth.

Shore won three Oscars, four Grammys and two Golden Gloves for his score for The Lord of the Rings.

Most recently, he composed the title theme for the blockbuster television series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” which returns this Thursday with a second season on Prime Video.

In the new British poll, Shore beat John Williams, who had six entries in the top 10 – from Schindler’s List and Star Wars to Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones and Saving Private Ryan.

After announcing the news, he said: “I am proud and delighted to have retained my place at the top of the Classic FM Movie Music Hall of Fame. Thank you to the many Classic FM listeners who voted. I am very happy that film fans still have a connection to my music and the journey into JRR Tolkien’s Middle Earth.”

Jonathan Ross, presenter of the twice-weekly film music programme Classic FM at the Movies, said: “The Classic FM Movie Music Hall of Fame is one of my favourite days of the year, celebrating the very best film scores from every decade. Howard Shore’s incredible music is so integral to the Lord of the Rings films, bringing the beautiful, spectacular stories to life. I’m delighted that his music will remain in the hearts – and ears – of Classic FM listeners.” Watch the full song below.
