A memorial service will be held on Saturday 7 September to honour and remember Noreen Kelly. July 4th was the sixth anniversary of Noreen’s untimely death. All donations raised will go to Thrombosis Ireland to raise awareness of blood clots.
Noreen was born and raised in Williamstown, County Galway. She was a wonderful daughter of Mary and the late Paddy Lavin and a great sister to Ann, Orla, Nollaig and Marian. Noreen lived in Williamstown for 18 years and then moved to Galway City and later Athenry. In Athenry she met the love of her life, Tim Kelly. They married in 2005 and set up a home in Cloran, Athenry. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Aishling and Aoife, who are now 15 and 11 years old. On December 27th 2023, Noreen, Tim and their two girls left for a fantastic family holiday to New York. They returned to Athenry on January 2nd 2024. The start of the New Year was to change their lives forever. On the morning of January 4th, Noreen began feeling unwell and was rushed to Galway Clinic. Unfortunately, all life-saving treatments failed and the family lost a very special woman that day. She died of a pulmonary embolism caused by a blood clot. Noreen was 49 years old.
The plan is to cycle 50 km, one kilometer to remember and honor each year of Noreen’s life.

The countdown is well underway for the annual open day at Templetogher Heritage Area. This year it will take place on Sunday 25 August, the last day of National Heritage Week. Preparations for the event have been underway for some time and the final touches will be added over the coming weeks.
Members are currently participating in the Pride of Place 2024 campaign together with other community organizations.
Our condolences to Tim O’Donoghue, Garrafrauns, Dunmore, on the passing of his wife Rose. Tim is participating in one of the local employment programs. Rest in peace Rose.

Preparations for the day of the judge’s visit, now scheduled for Thursday 5 September at 3.30pm, are continuing on many levels, with everyone pitching in, members of the various community organisations, participants in the local employment programme and individual homeowners, all of whose efforts are showing excellent results.
Tonight, August 6th, an important meeting of the Pride of Place campaign will take place at 9pm in the community hall. A large turnout is expected.
