Live summary of the final of day 2

Pan Pacific Junior Championships 2024

Welcome to the final session of day two of the Junior Pan Pacs 2024 in Canberra, Australia. With today’s session complete, we’re at the halfway point of the competition. Here’s a look at what’s on the agenda tonight.

DAY 2 FINAL SCHEDULE

  • Girls 100 Freestyle – Final
  • Boys 100 Freestyle – Final
  • 100 m Breaststroke Girls – Final
  • 100 m Breaststroke Boys – Final
  • Girls 400 medley – final

  • 4×200 freestyle relay boys – time final

The evening begins with a fantastic race in the girls’ 100m freestyle between 18-year-old Australian Milla Jansen and 15-year-old American Rylee Erisman. Jansen, who went into the competition just 0.09 seconds apart, posted the fastest time in this morning’s heats with 54.19, while Erisman was just behind with 54.29. They were the only swimmers in the field to stay under 55 seconds this morning, so tonight’s race will likely be between the two.

South Korean Kim Youngbeom put in a phenomenal performance in the boys’ 100m freestyle heats this morning, setting a new personal best of 48.65. He led the field by over a second and has given himself a very good chance for tonight.

Fifteen-year-old Australian Sienna Toohey is another swimmer to watch tonight. The young swimmer also led the heats of the girls’ 100m breaststroke by over a second this morning. She clocked 1:07.68, a personal best by a few hundredths of a second. This swim puts her in a league of her own in this field. If anyone wants to challenge Toohey tonight, they’ll have to match her speed in the front half, which is easier said than done.
