The Little League Baseball World Series opened on Wednesday in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, with four games, including two from the U.S. and two from the international category.

The theme of the day was dominant pitching, with both Mexico and the Asia-Pacific region throwing a combined no-hitter and the West region combining for a one-hitter.

Ten teams on each side will compete in a double-elimination tournament leading to the U.S. and International Championships, with the winners competing in the finals on Sunday, August 25.

Here’s a look at the results, latest match reports as well as match summaries and highlights.

Guerrero was sensational, managing three walks in his five frames.

Mexico got on the scoreboard in the second inning after Ulises Ortiz hit a single and later scored on a groundout and two wild pitches. The winners scored their second and final run in the fifth inning after Antonio Guerrero crossed home plate on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.

Naivmar Angela had a great day on the mound for Aruba, allowing just one earned run and two hits in five innings and recording three strikeouts.

Mexico will now face Latin America (Barquisimeto, Venezuela). Aruba will face the loser of the matches against Cuba (Villa Clara) and Europe-Africa (Brno, Czech Republic) in a play-off match.

The West (Hawai’i) region scored three runs in the first inning and then managed to escape a difficult bases-loaded situation in the last inning to defeat New England (New Hampshire) 3-1.

Trailing 3-1, New England had loaded the bases with two walks and a hit-by-pitch with one out in the sixth inning. The next batter hit a raging line drive to third base, but Eassie Miller grabbed the ball and quickly tapped to third base to hit the runner with a double for the last out.

West got his three-run home run in the first inning on a two-RBI single by Hayden Takahashi. Miller then added his own RBI single for a 3-0 lead.

To New England’s credit, they bailed out, prevented further damage, and didn’t allow a single run the rest of the game.

New England had just one hit as four West Region pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts, including starter Evan Tavares with seven. But New England kept the pressure on, drawing six walks.

In the end, West earned a hard-fought victory and will now play Great Lakes (Hinsdale, Illinois). New England will play an elimination game against the loser of Southwest (Boerne, Texas) and Mid-Atlantic (Newtown, Pennsylvania).

Lai Cheng-Xi led the Asia-Pacific team (Taoyuan City, Chinese Taipei) to a combined no-hitter after throwing 4.2 perfect innings and recording 10 strikeouts in an 8-0 victory over Canada (Surrey, British Columbia).

Ciou Zhi-Kai sealed the deal for Asia-Pacific, throwing 1.2 frames, making three strikeouts and allowing just one walk.

Asia-Pacific scored all of its runs in two innings, scoring five runs in the third and three in the fifth. The team managed eight walks and five hits, with Yu Chia-Jui hitting the biggest hit: a bases-loaded double in the third that brought all runners home and gave them a 5-0 lead.

The Asia-Pacific region will now face Australia (Sydney, New South Wales). Canada will play in an elimination match against the loser of the Japan (Tokyo) vs Puerto Rico (Guayama) match.

Southeast (Lake Mary, Florida) scored two runs in the fifth inning, erased a 1-0 deficit and defeated Midwest (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) 2-1 to close the night.

Two walks and a single filled the bases with one out before Liam Morrisey tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single. A sacrifice fly by Luis Calo brought Garrett Rohozen home for the game-winning run.

In the previous inning, Midwest loaded the bases and allowed two walks and a single to go unhit. After two strikeouts, Ryan Henry hit an RBI single to break the scoreless tie.

James Feliciano pitched brilliantly for Southeast, striking out 11 in 5.2 innings, allowing three walks, two hits and one earned run. Calo secured the save by striking out the last batter.

Southeast will now face Northwest (Puyallup, Washington). Midwest will play in an elimination game against the loser of Metro (Staten Island, New York) vs. Mountain (Henderson, Nevada).
