Lincoln County officials finalize details of inland port project

NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska (KNOP) – The Lincoln County Commissioners and the Inland Port Authority met Tuesday to finalize plans for an inland port in the county. The discussion provided an opportunity for both parties to ask and answer questions about the specifics of the project, including the stakeholders involved, potential contracts with merchants for import and export, and the overall cost of the project.

This project has been in the planning stages for over a year. According to Vincent Dugan, chairman of the Inland Port Authority, the project will be funded by state and federal sources, with additional contributions from local funds.

Dugan emphasized the economic benefits the port is expected to bring to Lincoln County, noting that the project will facilitate direct imports into the region.

“These are opportunities we’ve never had before,” Dugan said. “Maybe we can take advantage of direct rail access.”

The planned inland port will be located within the Hershey catchment area of Greenbrier Rail Services.
