Keane Lewis-Potter and Frank Onyeka both scored for Brentford in their 2-1 behind closed doors win over Wolfsburg on Saturday morning, while Jonas Wind scored a last-minute consolation goal for the German side.

After Friday night’s 4-4 draw at the Gtech Community Stadium, two different teams from Wolfsburg and Brentford met again at the Robert Rowan Performance Centre.

The Bees took an early lead when a cross from Ryan Trevitt found Lewis-Potter at the far post and he was able to direct his header over the Wolfsburg goalkeeper. Myles Peart-Harris looked dangerous throughout and the 21-year-old almost found Lewis-Potter, who was again lurking at the far post, to score his brace. Ben Mee returned from his long break and made a great tackle on Wind to deny the equaliser. Hákon Valdimarsson was hardly in trouble but had to be on his guard to deny another attempt from Wind in the box, which was the away side’s best chance of the first half.

B-team players Conor McManus and Iwan Morgan came on in the 65th minute, replacing Mee and Lewis-Potter, who both performed well. Peart-Harris again beat his marker well and played a great back pass to Morgan, but the striker could not connect with the ball properly to direct his shot towards goal. Brentford scored their second goal with 15 minutes to go when Ji-soo fed Kim Morgan, who made it easy for Onyeka to slot the ball into the net. Morgan should have scored himself shortly after the west Londoners’ second goal as he was free on goal, but the goalkeeper made a big dent and denied the youngster’s shot. Wind, who had been a nuisance all game, finally got his goal, finishing well from close range.

This was only a consolation, however, as Brentford enjoyed a largely comfortable win at Jersey Road.
