Lenoir County Public Schools Names Its Principal of the Year

LENOIR COUNTY, NC (WITN) – An elementary school principal has received a high honor from an Eastern Carolina public school system.

Lenoir County Public Schools announces that Mr. Rashard Curmon has been selected as the 2024-2025 School Superintendent of the Year.

He is the principal at Northeast Elementary. WITN was told the New Bern native joined the school system in 2019.

Before starting in Lenoir County, he taught and coached for several years in Greene County and then served as principal of Washington County Early College High School and assistant principal of Tarboro High and WA Patillo Middle, according to the school system.

“Being recognized as Principal of the Year is not only a recognition of my efforts, but also of the collective dedication of our incredible teachers, staff, students, families and district leaders,” said Mr. Curmon. “Leading this school has been an inspiring journey, and this recognition fuels my passion to continue to lead our school community to limitless potential.”

Mr. Curmon will be honored at our Board of Education meeting on September 9th.

Curmon earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from Elizabeth City State University, his Master of Arts in Education from East Carolina University, and a Master of School Administration from NC State University.

He will be officially honored at the Education Committee meeting on September 9.
