LEGO Harry Potter could learn a thing or two from LEGO Wicked

LEGO Harry Potter could learn a thing or two from LEGO Wicked

The LEGO Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Moment sets could run so that LEGO Wicked 75683 Glinda & Elphaba’s Dormitory could run.

Four LEGO Wicked sets, set for release in October, have been officially revealed by the LEGO Group, including 75683 Glinda & Elphaba’s Dorm Room. The set features the picture-perfect dorm room shared by ill-fated friends Glinda and Elphaba, but it also folds down to form a brick chest, complete with a rose, box and a box of green elixir on top.

The interior opens on hinges for play, while the exterior works well as a display piece, creating a nice balance between the two. It’s not the first time the LEGO Group has attempted a set like this, which reminds us of the now-discontinued LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Moment sets. Each featured a different classroom tied to a different Hogwarts house, which folded up into a book in the house colors.

While this was a fun idea on the surface, the execution left a lot to be desired. The universe’s color scheme of scarlet, emerald green, bright yellow, and royal blue seemed drab and boring in the brick-built versions, and the compact display versions of the sets didn’t quite have the visual impact they could have.

It seems that the LEGO Wicked team took what worked well with the Hogwarts Moments – namely the folding feature to show individual rooms – and added more flair and color to the build to create 75683 Glinda & Elphaba’s Dormitory. The LEGO Wicked set works just as well folded as it does opened, offering a dynamic and detailed playset that also folds up into a lovely display model.

It’s interesting to see the evolution of similar sets on different themes over the years, and the fine-tuning has certainly paid off in the case of 75683 Glinda & Elphaba’s Dormitory. Check out all the details on the new LEGO Wicked theme below.

I write about the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
