2024 US MASTERS SWIMMING NATIONAL SUMMER CHAMPIONSHIP

After two records on the first evening, nine Masters age group records were broken on the second evening. Seven of these also represented new world records for the Masters.

The highlighting of one of the data sets was Laura Val who clocked a time of 2:29.56 in the women’s 200-meter freestyle, ages 70-74, breaking her own US and world record of 2:29.72, which she swam in 2022.

Val notably holds nine world records in the 70-74 age group. She is one of the most decorated Masters swimmers of all time, having broken a total of around 450 world records during her career to date. She currently holds a total of 22 long course Masters world records, including the 200m freestyle (65-69).

Also broke a world record Daniela Barnea who clocked a time of 3:47.11 in the women’s 80-84 200m individual medley, breaking her own US age group record and the world record of 3:48.17 that she swam just over two weeks ago. Her time from two weeks ago broke the previous world record of 3:53.63 set by the Hungarian Katharina Flora in 2017. Barnea swam personal bests two weeks ago, particularly in the 200 m butterfly and 400 m individual medley; she is registered for both events later this weekend.
