Lake Mary All-Stars return home after Little League World Series victory

LAKE MARY, Florida. – The Lake Mary All-Stars will return to Central Florida on Monday after winning the championship game of the Little League World Series.

The team took a 2-1 win over Taiwan in eight innings to win the title.

“It was the greatest feeling ever,” said Lathan Norton of Lake Mary, who scored the game-winning run. “I haven’t had time to process it all yet, but it feels like the most incredible thing ever.”

Lake Mary is planning a parade for this Saturday and is calling the event a “once in a lifetime celebration.”

Bryan Nipe, director of economic development, parks and recreation, said they have been working on this celebration for months.

“Our girls in softball had already won states, and we had a lot of energy there already, and the boys kept going. We knew something big was happening,” Nipe said.

The city said the parade honoring the team, their coaches and families will begin at 10 a.m. It will include a parade of vehicles, mascots and a marching band.

This is Florida’s first championship in its ninth attempt. The state also came from behind in its 10-7 semifinal win over Texas on Saturday, scoring five runs in the final at-bat.

“We came here to do something. We came here to do a job and today we got that job done,” Florida manager Jonathan Anderson said. “We lost to Texas but then we fought back and now we’re here to talk about how we won the whole thing.”

News 6 will broadcast the parade live on air and on ClickOrlando.com on Saturday, August 31.
