La Bodega Market, Good Morning Breakfast House, Fin and Bone open

A new grocery store, bakery and restaurant are now open at the former Chop Shop location (formerly BB’s Market and before that Wagon Wheel) at 1915 S. Walnut St. in the Southgate Shopping Plaza.

Open daily from 10am to 8pm, La Bodega Latin Market offers a variety of groceries as well as freshly cut meats, deli items, a taqueria and a bakery offering everything (made in-house) from cakes, cookies and cupcakes to Mexican conchas, hand pies, empanadas and more.

The selection of smoked bacon and sausage, marinated chicken and beef, and fish that was part of the Chop Shop and the former Wagon Wheel will remain. A deli counter will sell sliced ​​cheese and meats. A taqueria, or taco stand, will sell el pastor, carne asada, and carnitas.

The pet treats and bones will still be sold, as will some frozen cakes and cupcakes. In addition, customers can purchase Mexican cheese, tamales, plantains and banana leaves, as well as an assortment of dried peppers and other spices.

The Good Morning Breakfast House, open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the adjacent restaurant, offers breakfast and lunch, including French omelets, pancakes and eggs. The salad and soup bar will remain, as will a selection of popular sandwiches.

From 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., the restaurant will operate as Fin and Bone Steakhouse, where chef Lorenzo Cortes, formerly of Uptown Cafe and Che Bello, will serve steak, fish, sandwiches and pasta. The steakhouse will offer entrees such as jalapeno poppers, garlic bread and chicken wings. Cortes plans to change some menu items about every three months to keep regulars’ favorites. The salad bar will also be open in the evenings.

Both Good Morning Breakfast House and Fin and Bone offer a selection of beer and wine, including mimosas.
