Kelly Temeyer: From Lawyer to Caring Transitions Franchisee

Kelly Temeyer: From Lawyer to Caring Transitions Franchisee

Kelly Temeyer’s commitment to growing her business while maintaining a high level of service is a testament to the scalability and flexibility of the Caring Transitions model.

Kelly Temeyerthe franchisee behind Caring Transitions of Metro Milwaukeehas found a brand new calling and made the transition from a successful career as a lawyer to a compassionate entrepreneur.

“I’m a lawyer by training and worked as an employment lawyer for about seven years,” Temeyer said. “After our family grew, I decided to give up law and do something else. Franchising offered us support while allowing me to do my own thing.”

When Temeyer on Caring transitionsshe immediately recognized the potential of this platform in her community of Milwaukee.

“For me, it was about offering a solution that we could implement and see the positive impact of immediately,” Temeyer said. “Although I was solution-oriented as an attorney, it was a slow process. Law can take years. Caring Transitions provides immediate and necessary solutions. I had a friend who was struggling to manage a loved one’s estate on his own, so I saw firsthand how valuable Caring transitions could be. We are that extended family member and a resource for people and families who are moving out of the parental home.”

Caring Transitions offers a unique and important service to help families navigate the complex process of moving, downsizing, and selling property as they age. Unlike traditional moving services that provide minimal support during this time, Caring Transitions offers comprehensive assistance and works closely with families to facilitate a smooth transition and help seniors settle into their new home with ease.

The low-cost entry and practical nature of the business model of Caring Transitions also appealed to her entrepreneurial side. “We didn’t want to invest in real estate or a store, so we thought it would be a great choice,” she said. “We also thought it would mesh well with my interpersonal skills. I didn’t realize the brand was a franchise at first, but when I put it all together, I felt like it would be a good fit for me.”

Temeyer launched her Caring Transitions franchise in the spring of 2018 and her company has seen steady growth since then. “It’s been great, we’ve grown continuously during this time in terms of the number of families we’ve been able to help,” she said. “COVID actually helped our business a lot because we were able to continue to support our families because we were able to do online sales. We were able to continue to work from home. We didn’t lose momentum. That really helped us continue to build brand awareness, especially on CTBids.”

All that success in their original territory allowed Temeyer to expand. “I originally bought the Metro Milwaukee area and at the end of last year I was able to acquire the neighboring area to the west of us,” he said. “We were able to expand into two areas.”

When it comes to the ability to scale the business, Temeyer says the variety of services and the number of sources of income is essential.

“There are so many different service opportunities within the Caring Transitions brand,” Temeyer said. “We can do anything when someone is going through a transition. We can pack them, organize the move, relocate them, do the space planning, move things into storage, ship things to family members out of state, manage donations, clear the property, host a sale – that’s what makes the brand so attractive and interesting to our clients, brokers and partners. There’s no limit to what we can help someone with.”

For those looking to make a difference in their community while reaping significant financial benefits, becoming a Caring Transitions franchisee offers a unique and fulfilling opportunity to combine personal passion with a proven business model.
