quarterback Matthew Stafford‘s wife, Kelly Staffordclarifies her comments in which she watched her four young daughters appear to be booed at a Los Angeles Rams football game.

“I didn’t know if I should post this video or not because I really don’t want to think about what happened,” Kelly, 34, wrote on her Instagram story on Thursday, January 18, sharing footage from the game. “This was our experience on the field.”

She added: “I know you’re booing me, but my children don’t know the difference even when I try to explain it to them. The whole scenario is hard to accept, but not as hard as having my integrity questioned. It happened, own up to it and let’s move on.”

Kelly took her four daughters — twins Sawyer and Chandler, both 6, Hunter, 4, and Tyler, 2 — to watch her husband’s team’s game against the Detroit Lions in the NFL playoffs on Sunday, Jan. 14. The Stafford girls greeted Matthew, 35, on the sidelines before kickoff, wearing matching T-shirts that read “Born in Detroit, Raised in LA.” (The children were born in Michigan, while Matthew was the Lions’ quarterback before being traded to the Rams in 2021.)

Kelly’s shady comments toward Lions fans sparked a fierce reaction, but other NFL families have come to understand that booing is part of the game.

“I think that’s expected. The fans are going to love their team no matter what, and I don’t take it personally,” said the Minnesota Vikings quarterback. Kirk Cousins exclusively told We weekly on Wednesday, Jan. 17, about how he and his wife, Julie Hampton, handle similar situations on game days. “It’s just fans who love their team, and it’s part of the fun to be excited, so you prepare for it.”

He continued, “You don’t have unrealistic expectations and then when they end up booing you or whatever, you kind of shrug your shoulders and say, ‘Hey, fans have to be fans and that’s part of it.'”
