Kelly Reilly, best known for her role as Beth Dutton in Yellowstone, will star in the crime series Under Salt Marsh.
The successful series from Paramount Network Yellowstone will soon come to an end, and while Kelly Reilly is expected to reprise the role of Beth Dutton in the sequel series, now titled The MadisonThis is not the only project she has planned for the immediate future. The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Reilly will also star in the Sky Original crime series Under salt marshesFilming is expected to begin later this year.
Written, created and executive produced by: Claire Oakley (Form), who will also direct, Under salt marshes is set in the fictional Welsh town of Morfa Halen, a close-knit community between mountains and a fast-approaching sea that threatens its existence. As a once-in-a-lifetime storm brews far out to sea, former detective-turned-teacher Jackie Ellis (Reilly) discovers the body of her eight-year-old student Cefin, apparently drowned. The discovery sends shockwaves through the community and revives the ghost of an unsolved case that rocked the town three years earlier – the career-destroying disappearance of Jackie’s niece Nessa.
Oakley issued the following statement: “Under salt marshes is a crime thriller set in a community that is deeply connected to its surroundings and woven into the grief, fears, dreams and secrets of its people. At its heart is Jackie, a character who embodies the wildness of the place we’re portraying. She’s free-spirited, compassionate and determined, with an iron resolve that makes her a true country girl. We’re absolutely thrilled to have Kelly Reilly bring Jackie to life.“
The series is produced by Little Door Productions in association with Sky Studios. Oakley wrote the scripts along with Jonathan Harbottle and Nikita Lalwani. Oakley is also the lead director, with Mary Nighy on board to direct the third and fourth episodes. The Hollywood Reporter informs us that Under salt marshes will be available on Sky and the streaming service Now in the UK, Ireland and Italy. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution will handle international distribution.
