“The benefits outweigh the disadvantages,” Osbourne tells PEOPLE about the prescription drug
Kelly Osbourne provides clarification regarding her healthcare.
While chatting with PEOPLE about Osbourne Media House and The Osbournes Podcast, the 39-year-old said that while her mother, Sharon Osbourne, has taken Ozempic (an FDA-approved prescription drug for people with type 2 diabetes), she has not.
“I just have to clarify that I have never taken Ozempic. I don’t know what Ozempic does to you other than what I saw with my mother,” she says. “I think it’s a miracle drug in the right hands.”

Ozempic is one of the brand names for semaglutide – also known as Wegovy – and has been a big topic of conversation in Hollywood.
“The benefits outweigh the drawbacks, and when you really dig into the nature of the drug and what it can do for you cognitively and what it does for the rest of your body, like I said, it’s a miracle drug,” Kelly says.
She adds that she doesn’t understand why people are so quick to criticize those who choose to take the drug for weight loss.
“For some reason, society tries to portray it as a bad thing. And I don’t understand why,” she says. “If you need to lose weight, it doesn’t matter how you do it, as long as you do it in a healthy way.”

Although Kelly has never tried Ozempic specifically, she tells PEOPLE that she has taken various “peptides” and “vitamins” during her own weight loss journey.
Peptides are short-chain amino acids, and according to Ania Jastreboff, MD, PhD., an obesity medicine physician at Yale University, the peptide semaglutide and other drugs in the same class are “nutrient-stimulated, hormone-based drugs.”
In other words, these prescription drugs act in the brain and affect the feeling of satiety, so that people who take the drug feel full more quickly and, as a result, eat less.

Last autumn, Sharon spoke to the Daily Mail and revealed that she weighs less than 45 kg after taking Ozempic.

“I’m too skinny and can’t gain weight. I want to because I feel like I’m too thin,” she said. “I weigh less than 45 kilos and I don’t want to. You have to be careful what you wish for.”
