It was more than enchanting.

Believe it or not, Kelly Clarkson – the original American Idol – has been nominated for a whopping 17 Grammy Awards since her debut album and song “Miss Independent.” Although she’s only won three so far, she could move up to fourth place tonight with a win for her album. Chemistrywhich is nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album. Fans know that the highly anticipated LP, which came out last year, was Clarkson’s unofficial divorce album, and there’s no doubt that the nomination is the icing on the cake of her lengthy divorce and subsequent legal battle with her ex, Brandon Blackstock.

The American Idol Alum and Agree Mentor appeared on the 2024 Grammy Awards red carpet in a sleek white off-the-shoulder dress from the Jason Wu Collection. The dress featured a crossover detail, and the singer accessorized with a white box clutch and, best of all, her son Remington “Remy” as a companion.

Clarkson’s glamour included Old Hollywood waves and smokey eyes. She completed the all-white ensemble with shimmering, dangling earrings.

Clarkson acknowledged the breakup after the nominations were announced last year. In her message, she praised the other artists in the category: Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Miley Cyrus and Olivia Rodrigo.

“Wow! I’m so grateful for every Grammy nomination I’ve ever received from @recordingacademy but this album means so much to me and this nomination hits me differently,” she wrote on Instagram. “Thank you! I’m also so honored to share this nomination with incredible artists like @teddysphotos, @mileycyrus, @taylorswift and @oliviarodrigo ❤️.”

After the release of ChemistryClarkson made it clear that she never intended to release an album with “one or two” emotions. She told fans that she wanted to express the full arc of her relationship with Blackstock – and the Recording Academy obviously saw the hard work and pure emotion she put into the project.

“I was trying to find a word; it could be one of the songs on the album, but I was trying to find a word that really describes the whole thing,” she shared on Instagram. “I didn’t want everyone to think I was just coming out with ‘I’m angry,’ ‘I’m sad’ – just one or two emotions. This album is definitely the arc of a whole relationship.”

The last time Clarkson walked the red carpet was in 2018, although she was regularly nominated for the big show. That year she was also nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album with meaning of life.
