Kathy Griffin worries fans with life update – ‘breakdown’

Kathy Griffin has left her fans worried with a message shared on social media.

The comedian posted on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) to her 2.6 million followers on the platforms that she was “breaking down”.

“My life is pretty much a mess right now. It’s mental stuff,” the 63-year-old said. “But you know what calms me down? Stepping on stage. Seriously, I’m pretty worn out most of the time by the time my feet touch the stage. So thank you for Friday in Norwalk, Connecticut, and thank you for Saturday with two shows in Ptown, Mass. (Provincetown, Massachusetts).”

Griffin is currently touring the United States and Canada, with concert dates scheduled through the end of the year. She will perform at the District Music Hall in Norwalk on August 23 and at the Town Hall in Provincetown, Massachusetts on August 24. One of her two shows in Provincetown is sold out.

In the comments on Instagram and X, many sent messages of support.

“Stay strong, Kathy. Breathe. Be kind to yourself,” actress Debra Messing said on Instagram.

“Then keep getting on stage. When you’re backstage, it’s just a matter of putting one foot in front of the other. You can do this,” wrote @anhelmond.

“I love you Kathy. We need you, keep making us laugh!” added @shelbyan.

“I loved you in Vancouver in February. Just like when I lived in Southern California. Just like always. If it helps you feel, you are MY medicine. Thank you,” @genevalaitis added on X, while @drjoekort posted, “Mental health issues are just as bad, if not worse, than physical issues. Thank you for sharing your struggles and raising awareness, Kathy.”

At the time of publication, Griffin’s Instagram post had received nearly 10,000 likes and over 490 comments, and her X post garnered over 6,100 likes and more than 410 comments.

In recent years Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List The star spoke openly about her divorce from Randy Bick and her lung cancer.

Griffin filed for divorce from her husband in December 2023 after nearly four years of marriage. Reacting to the news, Griffin said on Instagram at the time, “So… sh*t. This sucks.”

The couple had been together since 2011 and married on January 1, 2020, with actress Lily Tomlin officiating.

“We are gathered here today to celebrate the wedding of Randy Bick and Kathy Griffin,” Tomlin said in a video Griffin shared from their wedding. “What was meant to be a superficial one-night stand with a lot of posturing turned into something much more meaningful. They stayed together, then couldn’t keep their distance from each other.”

In August 2021, the Emmy Award winner announced that she had been diagnosed with lung cancer. In November of the same year, Griffin said during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

“OK, so I have to go to the ENT doctor and get another check-up. They’re going to put a big fucking tube down my throat, make me gag, and look at my vocal cords,” she said on Instagram at the time. “I’m sick of not having my voice and I’m terrified that it’s never going to get better because they said it would be better by now, but it’s not.”

On June 11 Suddenly Susan The star shared an update on her voice; she received an implant in her left vocal cord, “which was permanently paralyzed during my lung cancer surgery where I had half of my left lung removed.”

The next day, Griffin said her surgery was a success. “The vocal cord surgery went well,” she said. “As you can see, there is some scarring and swelling. It will be worth it if I get some of my voice back.”
