Kamala Harris has raised more than half a billion dollars for her campaign

Kamala Harris’ US presidential campaign announced on Sunday that it had raised more than half a billion dollars in just over a month, “a record for any campaign in history,” France 24 reports.

The staggering $540 million raised since Harris launched her campaign after President Joe Biden dropped out of the White House race on July 21 and endorsed her comes as she and her Republican rival Donald Trump enter the final 10-week sprint to Election Day on November 5.

Trump, whose campaign collapsed after Biden’s resignation, said he had $327 million in cash at the beginning of August.

Shortly before Harris took the DNC stage on Thursday to accept her party’s nomination, “we officially crossed the $500 million mark,” campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a memo.

“Immediately after her speech, we had our best fundraising hour since launch day,” she continued.

“In just over a month since launching our campaign, Team Harris-Walz has raised $540 million – a record for any campaign in history.”

The amount reflects funds raised by the campaign, the Democratic National Committee and joint fundraising committees, the statement said.

A third of those donations came from first-time donors, O’Malley Dillon said.

Harris’ campaign appears to have mobilized both large and small donors – a turnaround from the period of uncertainty following Biden’s disastrous debate performance in June, when major donors reportedly stopped fundraising.
