From the schoolyard to Parliament

On October 9, 2012, Australia’s first female Prime Minister Julia Gillard stood up in Parliament and uttered the now infamous words: “I will not listen to any lectures about sexism and misogyny from this man.” Visit the Dunstan Playhouse from August 16 to 31 for Julie, Popular actress Justine Clarke recreates Julia Gillard’s life, from the Adelaide schoolyard to the corridors of Parliament House where she delivered her famous speech. This production was developed by Joanna Murray-Smith and directed by Helpman Award winner Sarah Goodes. Julie will be held as part of the 150thth Anniversary program in collaboration with the State Theatre Company South Australia, the Sydney Theatre Company and the Canberra Theatre Centre.

Presentation of creative minds of the First Nations

First Nations creatives will be in the spotlight this August for OUR MOB 2024on display in the foyer galleries of the Festival Theatre at the Adelaide Festival Centre until 12 October. Since its launch in 2006 OUR MOB has highlighted art by South Australian First Nations artists of all ages, while OUR YOUNG MOB shows art by indigenous artists under 18 years of age. OUR MOB 2024 In addition, there will be two solo exhibitions and a series of literary events in September.

The Wizarding World

Let the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra take you into the magical world this August for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in concert. Under the direction of renowned Australian pianist and conductor Vanessa Scammell, the 75-piece orchestra will play Nicholas Hooper’s entire score while the film plays in the background on a 40-foot screen. The sixth part of the Harry Potter The series follows Harry as he delves into Lord Voldemort’s dark past, uncovers the secrets of the Horcruxes, falls in love, and suffers a tragic loss. This performance takes place on Saturday 17 August at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
