The galaxy far, far away is about to welcome another stellar member into its ranks.

Oscar nominee Jude Law was on hand Friday night in Anaheim, California, at D23 – Disney’s massive fan expo that attracted 12,000 people – to promote “Skeleton Crew,” a new “Star Wars” series set to premiere on Disney+ in December.

Before unveiling the first trailer, Law praised the new series as a “timeless adventure story in the spirit of the Amblin coming-of-age films of the ’80s,” citing 1985’s “The Goonies” and 1982’s “ET” as examples.

Law also described how he “fell in love with Star Wars as a ten-year-old boy,” and said what he liked most about “Skeleton Crew” – a series about a group of children who are “accidentally catapulted from their home planet” to the “vast reaches of the galaxy” – was the way the story was told from the children’s perspective.

The trailer gave a taste of a series that appears to be returning to some tried-and-true formulas, with glimpses of the suburban world of space and down-to-earth childhood elements, from intergalactic school buses and classrooms to front yards and kids riding around the neighborhood on bikes (but hovercraft-style bikes, nonetheless).

Things take a decidedly “Goonies”-like turn when the gang of teenage misfits stumble upon a hidden fort in the woods where water slides, skeletons and adventure await.

Soon the group is catapulted through hyperspace into the unknown cosmos, where they encounter exploding spaceships, Jawas and other creatures and eventually find themselves in a cage.

They watch in awe as the key that promises them freedom suddenly floats towards them from its hook, while one of the children calls out to a hooded figure: “You are a Jedi!”

Cue for the masked figure – played by Law – to reveal himself.

“Skeleton Crew” will stream on Disney+ with a two-episode premiere on December 3.
