Oh my God!

Mets infielder Jose Iglesias met with fans at Playland in Rye on Monday and also performed his hit song OMG. Monday was an “off day” for Iglesias, known in the music world as Candelita, between a 10-game road trip and the Mets’ return home for a series with Oakland that begins Tuesday at Citi Field.

Playland partnered with Audacy and WCBS Radio 880 for the event.

Candelita causes a stir at the Mets and tops the iTunes charts

Iglesias, the 34-year-old shortstop of Cuban-American descent, made waves in New York when he was added to the Mets’ roster in May after being signed as a minor league player. He previously played for the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles and most recently the Los Angeles Angels.

He quickly proved to be an asset to the team, but also made waves in baseball and the Latin music scene when his debut single, “OMG,” reached No. 1 on the iTunes Latin Pop charts in June. Iglesias, who performs under the name Candelita, used it as his walk-up song after its release, singing it for the first time in front of hundreds of fans at Citi Field on June 28.

The Mets play “OMG” after every home run they hit at Citi Field.
