John Kelly Jr. released as Browns make several roster changes

BEREA – The Browns made a number of changes to their roster on Monday as they began a new week of practice.

Linebacker Brandon Bouyer-Randle, cornerback Faion Hicks and safety Chase Williams were signed and the agreed-upon trade for center Nick Harris was made official.

To make room on the roster, the contract of running back John Kelly Jr. was terminated and long snapper Rex Sunahara, defensive end Marcus Haynes and cornerback Vincent Gray were released.

Sunahara was introduced to the team on Thursday and played in Saturday’s preseason loss to the Packers while Charley Hughlett sat out with a minor injury. Sunahara is from Bay Village.

Gray was released due to injury after leaving the Packers game with a groin injury.

Deshaun Watson will take “the vast majority” of the repetitions in practice against the Vikings, but will sit out the preseason game

Kelly has been with the Browns on and off since 2020, spending much of that time on the practice squad, appearing in five games with two rushes.

He lost a fumble early in the second half on Saturday night.

Bouyer-Randle (6’2″, 230 lbs) was not drafted by UConn in 2023 and spent last season on the Buccaneers and Commanders practice squads.

Hicks (5-10, 192) was signed by the Browns on August 4 and released on Thursday.

Williams (6-1, 195) is a rookie from San Jose State. He participated in Cleveland’s rookie minicamp as a tryout.
